Stroma’s Women’s practice combines many different approaches of healing to treat women for issues related to the pelvic floor or the “root base” as stated in the practice of Kundalini Yoga. After the patient’s history and pelvic floor assessment, our certified pelvic floor therapists come up with their equation to unveil the cause of the symptoms. We release what is tight, strengthen what is weak and exercise our patients in a functional way. For more information about our approach please call 212.255.5531.
We treat Pregnancy Health and Wellness with a unique collaboration of professionals unlike other PT clinics. We love working with pregnant women! Our Pregnancy Health and Wellness Program is designed to minimize complications that may arise prior to pregnancy, throughout pregnancy, during labor and delivery and post-partum. Here is a layout of how we approach Fertility, the Prenatal, Perinatal and Postnatal periods. We pride ourselves on keeping up to date with current evidence based approaches and providing each patient with a unique and quality experience.
With a pelvic floor therapist on staff, we can address and assist mothers with concerns around conception and fertility. We collaborate with In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) specialists around the city to optimize outcome for parents.
During the prenatal period a woman undergoes various physical changes. Sometimes, these changes carry over into the postnatal period. Therefore, it is important for all pregnant women to understand and tend to the prenatal changes to their bodies to optimize their postnatal recovery. In our prenatal program we will assess and educate a patient on what to expect in the coming months of their pregnancy and prepare an individualized physical therapy plan for the three terms of pregnancy. This will include manual therapy, massage therapy, childbirth education with Christina Reilly, education regarding proper body mechanics and posture, stretching and strengthening activities including prenatal Pilates.
Christina Reilly, our childbirth educator, is also our beloved Doula. She helps assist new parents by providing physical, emotional and informational support during the birthing process.
During the postpartum period, we will provide new mothers with support to address concerns around pelvic floor and abdominal weakness. We will provide a post-partum musculoskeletal assessment and pelvic floor assessment (if necessary). We treat musculoskeletal pain issues surrounding post-pregnancy physical changes, such as back pain, SI joint dysfunction, neck pain, radiculopathies and pelvic floor issues such as Urinary and Fecal Incontinence (UI), Diastasis Recti, Pelvic Prolapse.

Stroma offers a comprehensive program to rehabilitate kids for successful outcomes in the areas of sensory integration, neurodevelopmental interventions, musculoskeletal biomechanics, movement integration, motor function in both gross motor skills and fine motor skills, timely motor development, cognition development, social skills, and effective communication for a variety of medical diagnoses.
Our treatment techniques include the following:
In addition, we treat torticollis and plagiocephaly with efficiency and skill. Practitioners coach and support parents and caregivers to provide conservative interventions to help reduce and correct sternocleidomastoid (SCM) tension and skull deformation. Our 6-week treatment plan is an effective tool for parents that do not qualify for Early Intervention (EI) or require immediate therapy while they wait for an EI appointment.
At Stroma Physical Therapy, we have created a branch of our service that is metaphorically the “root caps” of a tree and that is committed to utilizing innovative and specialized skills to help treat Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). Our assessment looks at the arthro-kinematics of the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) bilaterally. We also look to see patterns of referral pain to the jaw, face, neck, head and upper extremity. Based on our assessment, we treat the pathological areas by releasing restricted soft tissue and mobilize and strengthen weak tissue to obtain symmetry.
