We treat what causes the symptoms. Arriving at a cause not only solves your pain problems, but it also speeds up the process of healing which means a shorter treatment duration. At Stroma, we are committed to providing services that truly make a difference in the lives of the patients we treat.

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy, or manipulative therapy, is a physical treatment used by many different practitioners which include Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Chiropractors, and Osteopaths to treat musculoskeletal pain and disability.  At Stroma Physical Therapy, we take great pride in our Hands-On Minds-On approach which means we place a great deal of thought in deciding what type of manual therapy to apply, how much pressure to use, and what areas to work to enhance our healing effect.

Balance Training

With a sound understanding of the three systems that keep you upright (Visual, Vestibular, and Somatosensory), we approach balance training with a combination of manual therapy and exercise prescription that targets all three systems. From throwing a ball while standing on one foot, to basic trunk stabilization while lying on your back, to neural flossing techniques to help improve sensation at the bottom of the foot, your balance training program is specified for your needs.

Therapeutic Exercise and Exercise Programs

Exercise prescription at Stroma Physical Therapy involves a combination of aerobic, strength, stability and stretch activities that ensure that the body is improving in relation to an injury. Our programs are designed to help patients get stronger, feel better and most importantly, give them knowledge to help return them to independence and functional mobility. If you are not injured, and need to be placed on a program designed specifically for your needs, we have PT’s, Exercise Physiologists and Personal Trainers on staff to help devise the right program for you.

Gait Analysis and Orthotics

Your body’s alignment begins with your feet. Stroma Physical Therapy offers semi-custom orthotics from Vasyli that are heat molded to personalize fit. They come in a range of sizes and shapes to fit in any shoe, from sneakers to high heels. Orthotics prescription comes with a gait assessment, which includes assessing your foot in weight bearing, like walking and running, and non-weight bearing. We also heat mold your orthotic on the spot so that you can walk away with a pair on your first session!

Pilates for Rehabilitation

Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness to support efficient controlled movement. He called his approach Contrology, or the study of control. It involves a series of low impact exercises and stretches, using specialized equipment. At Stroma, we have trained Pilates therapists and professionals to ensure your experience is effective, introspective and safe.

In Physical Therapy, modalities are described as machines/equipment that help relieve pain and inflammation. At Stroma Physical Therapy, we use the most Evidence-Based (EB) approaches and maintain our equipment regularly. At Stroma, we believe that modalities can be a great adjunct to manual therapy and exercise prescription. We use modalities such as electrical stimulation, NMES, TENS, Ultrasound, Laser (3B), Heat and Ice. As these modalities augment our treatment approach, we provide a complete solution to your therapeutic needs.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being. There are dozens of different massage techniques. Stroma offers Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy and Shiatsu. Stroma also offers Medical Massage which is geared to help rehabilitate injury. Stroma Physical Therapists converse with your Massage Therapist to develop a massage program and target the tissues most important to help rehabilitate an injury.

Reiki Therapy

Reiki is a Japanese technique through which practitioners transfer or channel universal energy through their palms and into the patient to encourage emotional or physical healing. A variety of techniques may be used during a session, such as, but not limited to, Crystal Healing, Sound Healing, Color Therapy or Chakra Healing. Stroma Physical Therapy believes strongly in a combination of both Eastern and Western approaches to help improve outcomes.

Active Release Therapy®

Active Release Therapy® or ART is a soft tissue therapy created by a chiropractor in or to help heal overused tissues. Designed to repair dysfunctions of muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves, Active Release Technique® is a patented and highly effective movement-based therapy. Our staff at Stroma Physical Therapy have full body certifications to use as one of the many tools to help rehabilitate our patients.

ICT by Stroma™

ICT by Stroma™, which was created and designed by Vinita Chandra Mody, PT, trains practitioners to utilize semi-occlusion at targeted vascular sites, to treat musculoskeletal injuries. An initial semi-occlusive event at a proximal vascular site followed by a secondary semi-occlusive event at the vasculature in a neural structure can conjure the innate healing properties like the mechanism of Ischemic Conditioning used in Medicine. Practitioners at Stroma Physical Therapy are trained in this novel technique and use it as one of the many tools to help improve healing and pain outcomes.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Instruments (IASTM) have been used for centuries in Chinese medicine. They called the technique Guasha which translates to “scrapping or scratching”. Instruments have been further developed and improved in recent years by many different companies such as MiyoDac® and Graston Techniques®. Using this traditional concept, Stroma Therapists employ the highest level of technique in using these tools to enhance the healing effect.

Reflexology is gentle manipulation or pressing on certain parts of the foot, hands and ears to produce an effect elsewhere in the body through your bioenergetic field, or Qi. The pressure received in the feet, hands and ears may help to relieve stress and pain by sending signals that ‘balance’ the nervous system by releasing chemicals such as endorphins.
